2023 Junior World Championships

On Sunday the 19th of November, following all the age group competitions, FIG held the very first Junior World Championships. These athletes were determined by the top 8 qualifiers from the 13/14 and 15/16 WAGC events. Based on this, Joshua Blench (15/16) was competing in Tumbling and Alexsa Kachan (13/14) in both Tumbling and Dmt. These competitions were an absolute spectacle and such a thrill to have our gymnasts competing in.

First up was Alexsa in Tumbling and at just 13 years old, the challenge was set for her. She was strong again in final one and progressed to the super final once again. Even though she was up against older girls, she proved she was one to watch for the future. She finished proudly in 4th place.

Then it was time for Alexsa to head over to Dmt and Josh was up at the same time in Tumbling.

Both continued on with their fine form from their WAGC events, performing incredibly competitive routines in the first round of competition. Both Josh and Alexsa progressed through to the final in top ranks. After the top 8 had competed their routines, Josh and Alexsa were still sitting in top 4, which meant it one more super final for them both to compete in.

A minor mistake saw Josh have to make an adjustment to his routine. He made it to the landing zone and finished cleanly and in the end, took out the Bronze medal spot. This medal was in conjunction with his silver medal from his age group event. A gallant effort and by far Josh’s best results to date.

Alexsa saved her best routine till last and was near perfect. She beat out the older competitors and took out first place, making her the very first DMT Junior World Champion. A very successful competition for Alexsa taking out the bronze in her DMT event 2 days prior and the World Title in her tumbling event just the night before.

We are so proud of these two athletes. It was a big schedule for them jumping and competing seven days straight but you wouldn’t have known it. They showed great skill, poise and determination and we are so happy for them and their results. Congratulations to all involved especially their families, coaches and support team. Job very well done!
